This is the bakers rack I had in my kitchen table wall since we re-built our house in 2006. {of course in this picture I have everything off of it, but I can tell you it was was being used as a catch all piece of furniture with no real purpose or storage}
It was suppose to be temporary. I brought it over from our house that we lived in while our home was being re-built. I knew it wasn’t the right piece for the space and was going to get the right one eventually, but it wasn’t high on my priorty list.
Come Decemeber of 2010, when I was taking down my Christmas stuff, I had had it! Four years of looking at it and I just couldn’t stand it any more, so I put it on Craig’s list. My husband was baffled because he thought it looked fine, and didn’t understand why I wanted to get rid of it. I didn’t even tell him when I did it, it was just one of those things where I had to do it NOW! So for 7 months the wall has been empty while I have been causally looking for a hutch. I had my eye on the one I just bought since February, and just decided this week to pull the trigger and get it. I couldn’t believe the store still had it, so I figured it was meant to be.
I kind of wish it was longer and had more storage, but my husband was afraid of me getting a humungous piece of furniture and cramping the walkway. So I didn’t get hutch as big as I would of liked, but I still love it! As you can see from this picture looking into the kitchen, there is plenty of walkway {you can see the corner of the hutch on the right}
And here is a view looking from the kitchen into the family room {the side of the hutch is on the left}
What I love about this hutch is some of the cool things it has built into it. It takes away from my storage, but just the uniqueness of it makes it worth it. It has a top drawer that you drop down and it makes into a little writing desk
Then below that, the cabinet front looks like it is two separate doors,
but it really is a lazy susan shelf that spins around so that you can use it for serving
Pretty cool huh? Don’t know if I will ever use it for that, but it could be fun to try. In the other top drawer it has a formica board on the top when you pull it out for a serving area
Then you lift the tray up and it has a green velvet lined drawer for storing silverware
The finish is perfect. Matches my kitchen chairs perfectly
The top portion of the hutch has wire inserts that I just love
{like my fake cake? lol I put that in there last night to see how things are going to look when I get around to filling it} The curved crown molding on the top gives it some style and blends so nicely with all the molding I have in the room
I like how the door hardware is painted the same as the cabinet
Overall, I think it was a good compromise with my husband for the space. He loves it by the way.
Now it is time to fill it up with pretty dishes and accessories, let the fun begin!
