As I was reading Joan’s blog, For The Love of a House, the other day, I was shamed and embarrassed. Well, no one knew I was shamed and embarrassed but me, until now.
I love reading her blog because Joan knows how to put a room together with class and style. Just check out her kitchen
Is that a well put together room or what? The rooms in her house and the renovation she has done {and is still doing}, is unbelievable to say the least. She used to be an antique dealer for years, and she knows her stuff like no other.
What was the post that shamed me? It was about beeswax candle sleeves that she uses on all her antique chandeliers. She is so detailed on how she puts her house together it is amazing. This is what she wrote that got me
“There is just something lovely about using ”real” beeswax sleeves. For a small amount of money you can upgrade paper, or horrors… plastic;) to real wax sleeves. That one simple detail will change the whole piece.”
When I read this, I looked up from my computer at my chandelier in my office and I held my head in shame
Yep, I have the “horror” plastic sleeves as she says, on my beautiful chandelier. In fact, not only are they the cheesy plastic sleeves, they still have the UL tags on them
Now that is really bad. I hate taking tags off. I think it is because when we had to replace everything in our house from the fires, EVERYTHING had a tag on it because it was all new. It got to be a daunting task to remove those tags, so I eventually stopped taking them off unless it was really noticeable. Um…yeah those UL tags are pretty noticeable huh?
But the good news is, I ordered all new white beeswax sleeves from the company she buys hers from, Lumiere Candles, Those plastic sleeves are going to be a thing of the past real soon.
I love this chandelier in my office, {although, it is evident I did not stage this picture since some of the crystals look a little murky from lack of cleaning} I can not believe I let it sit in all it’s crystal glory wearing those cheesy plastic sleeves! It was a small investment that I should of done years ago. Soon as I get them and give the crystals a good cleaning, you bet I will be showing you the new look. I can’t wait!
