I had been on a hunt for a lacquered credenza for our river house family room. It all started when I saw this beautiful room on Sadie + Stella’s blog designed by Moth Design {I am in love the whole room actually}
It was the white credenza that caught my eye. I loved how it could hold it’s own in a room filled with modern and rustic pieces
Then I saw this one from Palmer Weiss
But I also liked the look of a bold color of this one
But first I needed to find the right credenza. I searched high and low on San Diego’s Craig’s list with no luck. Then I found this one on ebay for $6,895 and fell in love. Not the price but the look
So I started to broaden my search on Craig’s List and searched within 100 miles. And there she was, the perfect credenza for $300.
I drove the 85 miles one way to pick it up, and happen to mention to the person selling the piece if he knew of anyone who did lacquer finishes. And sure enough there was a guy right around the block. AND! He is the same guy who actually did the lacquer on the expensive red one. What are the chances of that?
I drove around the corner and dropped off the piece with the finisher and told him I would call him with a color. Probably white…but I was undecided. Three weeks went by and I was still waffling back and forth on white or a bold color. I needed to make a decision so I just went for the bold. It was my gut instinct and I went for it. I chose Sherwin Williams Loch Blue.
Last week I started doubting my decision. I emailed the finisher and asked if he had started the piece yet, because I was thinking I should just go with white. He informed me that piece was done and sent me some pictures, and it was beautiful. I was in awe of the color, and so happy I wasn’t able to change my mind
I picked it up on Monday and placed it temporarily in my entryway until I can take it out to our river house. It is just too beautiful of a piece, I couldn’t bear to store it in the garage
My fear was that the blue color I chose wasn’t going to look good with the drapery fabric, but that is not the case
It is hard to get a good picture of the depth of the color with the lacquer finish
Here is the side by side of the before and after
This credenza is going to make such a statement, I can’t wait to get it in the room. I guarantee there will be plenty of pictures to follow when I do!

Love love love love! Excellent color choice! I am so impressed. I did notice that the top row of hardware has been rotated. Was that a conscious decision? Or an oversight? Either way, it’s lovely!
Oh my gosh Debbie I didn’t even notice that. I was wondering why they were sitting right. I guess I was too excited on how the color turned out to notice. Thanks for mentioning it, I am going to go fix them right now!
Oh my god I am seriously in love with this credenza. Perfect color choice and hardware! It’s a good thing I don’t know where you live ; ) ; )
I absolultely love the credenza…would love to replicate! Great choice!
Gorgeous credenza…and such a fun story to go with it.
wow! stephanie–it’s beautiful! You need to name this piece! Something regal, like a duke or a king! He’s soooo handsome! I can’t wait to see it in the river house.

I love how you drove 85 miles for it- totally worth it though. The blue is gorgeous!!
Absolutely stunning!! I’m really curious to know as I have a credenza that might need the same makeover… what’s the rough ballpark cost of a lacquer finish? Feel free to email
.
Absolutely gorgeous!! Love all the inspiration ones, but yours turned out great. What an excellent color! How’d you get the shine – a gloss protective coat?
this is so gorgeous – love it, love it, love it! i recommend credenzas to my clients all the time, but we always have trouble finding affordable options.
So nice to see that you went with color! And its so crazy that the same guy who sold you the craigs list credenze is the same one who was selling the red ebay credenza for 50 times the price! Steal! I’m back linking this to my blog!
Thanks Nicole! I have to find out where Emily Henderson gets her lacquer done though, she has a source that is even cheaper in LA. I can see myself lacquering a lot of pieces if I could get the price lower. Thanks for the link on your blog! I really appreciate that.
