It sure was weird having the 4th of July on a Wednesday this year wasn’t it? I know it has been a week since the holiday, but I don’t think it is too late to show you some fun things I did to celebrate.
Our 4th was spent with family, eating, swimming and watching fireworks in our backyard. I decorated and cooked for two days. I just love the 4th of July, it makes me so proud to be an American, I can not get enough of the red, white and blue.
I wanted to make to another magnetic table skirt for the 4th of July using strictly flags. {in case you missed how I did my first magnetic table skirt, you can see it here}
For my 4th of July table skirt, I used 4 nylon flags I purchased at Home Depot. The cool thing was, they were exactly 30″ long, all I had to do was sew them end to end. This time though, the magnetic tape adhesive wasn’t sticking to the nylon fabric. {I am learning as I go with this magnetic skirt idea} I ended up having to staple the magnetic strip to the flag skirt. Once I got the magnetic strip secured, it attached and detached to the table with ease. It is something I will use year after year, I just love how it turned out.
I bought carnations and daisies from Costco for all my flower arrangements and inserted flags
I did a dessert table {inspired from my Pinterest dessert board} with Strawberry Shortcake, Peanut Butter Pie Shooters, homemade Cherry Pie my sister made and Banana Oreo Pie shooters. Oh and Patriotic Jello! The Peanut Butter Pie shooters were a little too sweet and rich for my liking, I don’t think I will be making those again. But the Banana Oreo Pie was to die for!
I made the signs from a wooden spool from Michaels and wrapped it in red electrical tape. I took a regular pencil and wrapped it in white contact paper. Then I attached the wood board {got those at Michaels} to the eraser part of the pencil with a push pin. I don’t have the best of writing though darn it!
The 4th of July subway style sign was a last minute idea. It could of used a cute red frame, but I ran out of time.
But the best part of the 4th of July was watching my grandson Carter listen to his cousin Brady and my sister Cindy play him a song. Last year when Carter was born, they made Carter a lullaby CD of songs. Carter listens to them every night before he goes to bed. You can see from the video that Carter was a little confused when he watched Brady play the guitar and sing the song, since he has only heard it come from an iPod lol. It was so cute. My youngest daughter Tiffany is holding Carter. {check out how Carter sways to the song like Ray Charles, I love when he does that}
You can hear and or purchase the all the Lullaby songs here if you so desire. {http://bradypaul.bandcamp.com/album/lullabies} I think the style of music is very soothing for a baby. I know Carter just loves listening to them! I get all choked up when I hear them, it was the greatest gift ever to my grandson. {and no, I did not get the singing gene, just my sister, so you won’t be hearing me on any cd…ever!}
