A bar cart

I found this bar cart at an estate sale back in August of last year. They had it sitting outside, shoved in a far corner of the patio.  Being the picker that I am, I saw past the bad paint and it’s dirtiness and snapped it up for $5.  This is what it looked like without the glass inserts right before I painted it

I gave it a good cleaning, and some black and gold paint and brought this bar cart to life

The bummer part was, I didn’t really have a spot for it, so it sat in my studio getting in my way. This weekend I decided to bring it out to our river house to see if I could find it a home. And wouldn’t you know it, I found the perfect spot! I had always felt that the wall next to the entertainment center needed something besides the faux palm {I am a little ashamed to show a room with faux plants, but it is the only way I can have greenery at our river house, it’s not my first choice but the only choice I really have. Sometimes it is months before I get out to our river house, if not longer.  Plants don’t thrive very well getting watered every two months, especially in the hot summer months, so  I resort to silk}

Black and gold bar cart

The best part about finding a spot for my bar car? I got to use the vintage gold glasses and decanters I had been hoarding for over a year.  Love when that happens!

I found the decanters and glasses at a consignment shop locally for under $40, aren’t they pretty?

I was afraid the black and gold wouldn’t flow in this room, but it compliments the grasscloth wallpaper and the entertainment center nicely.

Next time I go out there, I am going to pour the alcohol into the decanters and bring some cute hanging tags.  I like these from World Market  {although this set has my least favorite, Rum, and is missing my favorite Tequila ;) }

I wish I would of brought my good camera, because these iPhone pictures just don’t do it justice. But boy, I am so excited my bar cart found a home and is out of my studio. Are you like me and buy things and hope to find a spot for it? Or do you have more restraint than I do?

  3. Stunning!! I love it. Gold was the perfect choice.

  4. Great job on the cart, but I’m in love with the wall sconces! Where can I find some??

    • Thanks Janice! I bought those wall sconces from Horchow in 2007. They were called Ashby Wall Sconce but I looked and they don’t have them, nor does anyone else on the web. I even looked on my receipt and they did not state a manufacturer, darn. They are very large, 15″ x 29″ and I just love them!

  5. It turned out great! Love the black and gold.
