4th of July decorations and desserts {and a cute video}
It sure was weird having the 4th of July on a Wednesday this year wasn’t it? I know it has been a week since the holiday, but I don’t think it is too late to show you some fun things I did to celebrate.
Our 4th was spent with family, eating, swimming and watching fireworks in our backyard. I decorated and cooked for two days. I just love the 4th of July, it makes me so proud to be an American, I can not get enough of the red, white and blue.
I wanted to make to another magnetic table skirt for the 4th of July using strictly flags. {in case you missed how I did my first magnetic table skirt, you can see it here}
For my 4th of July table skirt, I used 4 nylon flags I purchased at Home Depot. The cool thing was, they were exactly 30″ long, all I had to do was sew them end to end. This time though, the magnetic tape adhesive wasn’t sticking to the nylon fabric. {I am learning as I go with this magnetic skirt idea} I ended up having to staple the magnetic strip to the flag skirt. Once I got the magnetic strip secured, it attached and detached to the table with ease. It is something I will use year after year, I just love how it turned out.
I bought carnations and daisies from Costco for all my flower arrangements and inserted flags
Patriotic Pinterest Fest
I had a Pinterest Patriotic fest this weekend. I may pin a lot, but I also do sometimes make things I pin. This round I made all things Patriotic for our Memorial Day BBQ. All recipes and links can be found on my 4th of July board here
The patriotic popcorn was very yummy and easy to make. I drizzled half of them with vanilla and half with white chocolate. I got the popcorn holders at Michaels.
I love all things jello. Must be something from my childhood. I improvised on the white filling than what the recipe called for. I added about 8 ounces of cream cheese to the cool whip, 1/4 c of white sugar and a dash of vanilla. Then I mixed it with my hand mixer until smooth and creamy.
I was on a roll making mini desserts.
Some of my mini cheesecakes caved in the middle so I added some cherry pie filling to the the top
I found that the lattice tops were harder to do on the apple pies, so I only did half that way
As you can see, the mini pies weren’t perfect, but they tasted really good!
I also made fruit salsa, but I probably won’t make it again. The fruit gets all soggy and not so fresh looking very fast.
I really just wanted to try the new spoon maker kit I got to dip the salsa
Memorial day weekend dessert ideas
Did you know that Memorial day originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the fallen Union soldiers of the Civil and was called Decoration Day? That has since changed of course, and now we have one day to honor all Americans who have died in all wars. {I kind of like the idea of Decoration Day, you know, cause I like to decorate}
In observance of Memorial Day, I plan on putting out plenty of red white and blue, to honor those who have died in our military service. I overflow with grateful pride when I put out flags on memorial day, a tribute to the brave people who defend freedom and liberty of our country.
I will be adding some decor with mini flags to these desserts for our bbq as well. I love mini deserts and have been wanting to try these {click on the picture to go to the recipe}
And make some of this fun popcorn
But most of all I want to remember and honor our fallen heroes and say
Thank you
I hope you will too
Hyphen Interiors
Today I am guest posting over at Kristy’s Hyphen Interiors on 4th of July decorating. Click on over and read what are my must haves on 4th of July decorating here.
And while you are there, check out Kristy’s fun and styling ways of decorating. My favorite of Kirsty’s is how she painted the fabric on this chair…YES she painted it! Who would of known you could do that? Brilliant, cost effective and a whole lot quicker than removing all those staples!
Amazing right? See the full “how to” here.
I can’t wait to share more of my 4th of July decorating with you later this week, I just love the red, white and blue!
