I had some left over fabric from the settee in the “fun” room so I decided to re-do the foot board inserts on the bunk beds. I originally had lavender fabric inserts, but I decided to take them off since the color no longer went with the new room design. They were attached with velcro, and when I pulled them off, some of the wood came off with it. {in this progress picture you can see the missing wood in the bottom foot board } So either I needed to sand and paint or just make new ones.

I decided to do neither and just use the old ones I already had. The boards fit perfectly, why make more work for myself? I put the grey velvet fabric over the existing lavender fabric, and stapled the fabric to the back side. Took a whole 10 minutes for each of them. Now that is my kind of project! I used the same adhesive back velcro to attach them to them back on to the foot boards

I thought since the couch was tufted, these inserts should be as well. I did my “cheat” tuft and used my staple gun to make three tufts

I plan on putting fabric covered buttons on the “cheats” next time I go out there. I love how the grey foot boards pick up the grey from the couch when you walk into the room. And it was so much easier than sanding and painting, sometimes it pays to re-use what you have, and this time I am so glad I did.

I did a couple of other projects last weekend in the “fun” bedroom when I brought the settee out. This bedroom has two sleeping areas within the room. One side has the bunk beds and the other side has a queen bed. During peak months out at the river there are lots of friends and family visiting, so filling up the rooms with beds is a must.

When I was putting the reclaimed headboard together, I was exhausted from lifting it into place, and I plopped down on in the queen bed. As I lay there, I realized that you looked straight at the bunk beds when you are in that bed. Which is fine if there is one big family sleeping in there, but a lot of times it is a mixture of family and friends. Awkward right? So it dawned on me I needed to put some type of privacy curtain between the two sleeping areas.

This is the view from the queen bed

And this is the view from the bunk bed side

I found the perfect fabric at Ikea called Britten Number I also picked up Ikea’s Lill white curtains for $4.99 to use as the liner for the backside of the fabric. I thought it was going to be a simple sewing job, which it should of been since all I had to do was sew panels of the Ikea fabric to the ready made curtains. But it wasn’t. To be honest, I can’t cut a straight line, nor sew a straight line, which means you get a crooked looking drapery.

I ended up having to sew three panels out of the fabric. I love the random numbers written across it, but that also meant I had to perfectly line up the pattern for the panels..not fun. I need to think about these things before I decide to pull out the sewing machine and do it myself. Sewing these long panels in hind sight, was something I should of had done professionally. It takes me longer to fix my mistakes {and there were plenty} than to actually do the sewing. I’m sure our guests will enjoy the privacy more than the craftsmanship anyway.

It definitely gives a lot of privacy, and slides very nicely along the galvanized steel rod I put together from parts in the plumbing department at Home Depot

Since it is an hour round trip to any store from where we are, I got cre8tive. I made the tie back out of left over chain from the empire chandeliers I had previously hung in the room

I was lucky and found a cup hook laying around to screw into the wall to hold the chain tie back

I actually like the way it looks. I love the unexpectedness it gives to the drapery. I had some $2 oops paint in purple and decided to paint the “fun” letters. My daughter Tiffany thought the original blue of the marquee letters didn’t flow with the room. Me, I thought they were more like art and art isn’t meant to match, it can stand out on it’s own. But I decided to paint them since I already had the paint

It ties in the purple accents I am putting in the room, but I wish it was just a tad darker purple, but I can live with it

I love how when you walk in the room you can see the “fun” letters in the mirror above the couch

So here is the before and after of this side of the room. Taking down the valences really opened up the room. And now my guests have a little more privacy when they stay and a comfy couch to lounge on as well.

Sharing this at

Every time I got into my car I had to look at my newly upholstered tufted settee sitting in our garage. The garage just wasn’t doing it justice and I was itching to see how it would look in the “fun” room. So I snuck away this weekend to our river house to put the into the room where it belongs

Wow, what a difference it made going from a garage to an actual room. It has now found it’s permanent home and I couldn’t be more happier with how it looks in the room

This is exactly what I had envisioned for the room and it just fits perfectly on the wall

The table is from West Elm, the rug from Joss & Main

And I finally found a place for the antique mirror I purchased a year ago for $55. It is as if they were waiting for each other

So the room is pretty much done. I have some accessories I still want to bring in, but for the most part it is complete. This room went from flowery girly room, to a more unisex grown up designI think the settee gives the room sophistication, and I tested it out, it is VERY comfortable. What is even better is that the Robert Allen fabric has a fabric performance of 200,000 rubs. Which is super durable since anything over 10,000 rubs is considered a good upholstery fabric. I think it is going to hold up very well. What do you think?
