The twice re-do bergere chairs
I must start off with a confession. I stupidly volunteered to re-upholstered these bergere chairs. I was naive, to say the least, thinking I could easily re-upholster these type of chairs. I had no idea what it really entailed. I can tell you now, it was way beyond my upholstery skills. But as my sister tells me, I am tenacious and that is what forces me to finish things. I just want to say, hats off to all of you who can do this effortlessly and even give a tutorial!
I took on this challenge for Priscilla, someone whom I have known since she was 7. She is now 33. She was my shadow for years, helping me with my girls when they were little, dressing them up, playing with them and just being my buddy. I have watched her grow up and now have two beautiful kids of her own, whom I love dearly, she is a big part of our family’s life. I rarely say no when she asks me to help her with a home decorating project.
She originally got the chairs off of Craig’s list and they looked like this
They were in good shape, but she didn’t like the fabric or the finish. She was in the process of putting her living room together and wanted them to match the club chair she already had for the room {how cute is her dog peeking over the chair?}
A Stenciled Pillow
Before I get to the pillow I have to share this picture with you! I pulled into a parking space at HomeGoods today (my second home my husband says) and from the corner of my eye, I thought I saw someone sitting in the driver’s seat in the Mercedes parked in front of me. Then I looked closer, and I started busting out laughing.
It wasn’t a person sitting in the car, it was a big ole dog! I guess he was ready to leave..
Ok, back to the post. Recently my daughter picked up two of these pillow covers at Ikea for $6 each.
She wasn’t so hot on the bland brown color of them, but I told her for $6 you can’t go wrong, and they had a zipper closure to boot. Sure enough, she got them home and hated them. Feeling bad that I convinced her to get them and now she hated them, I decided to take the pillows home to my studio and see what I could do to pretty them up. I was debating on adding continuous ruffles to the front, or a large fabric flower in the middle, but it just wasn’t doing it for me. Since the rage right now is letters and numbers, which I am loving by the way, I decided to go that route. I already had the number stencils on hand which happen to be next to my damask stencil (imagine that!) so I used both.
A New Rug Has Arrived
I just got this COOL rug from Rugsusa today.
Honestly, I have a REALLY hard time picking rugs for my house, I look and look and never can make a decision to buy. So this time I held my breathe and closed my eyes and hit the buy button. I covered my bases and bought 3 different styles. In my mind I placed them in different areas of the house, in case they didn’t work in the spot I was thinking. I got one in the mail today, and yahoo! I am so pleased with the quality and the color. I love the way it reflects in the mirrored cabinet in the bathroom! This might of gotten me over my rug purchasing dilemma. I can’t wait to go on their site and see what other jewels I can find.
