Painted oars with Pottery Barn ceramic numbered hooks

I have always loved the look of oars as a decorative accent in a room

I really wanted to somehow incorporate the look at our river house. And then an idea hit me on how I could use oars as decoration and also make them functional
When we have a big group of people out at the river, there is never a good spot to put all the wet beach towels. When I saw these oars at my friends booth at an antique mall, I thought maybe I could find a way to use them to hang the towels, so I bought them.
Now that I had the oars, I needed some type of hook to use to hang a towel.
I came across these cool numbered hooks at Pottery Barn, I had two oars, which meant I needed two sets of the hooks, and lucky me, they were on clearance
{just saw online that they are now sold out}
They were perfect because they had a flat back and a long drop hook that I needed in order to use them on the oars.
They fit perfectly on the oars and were strong enough to hold a wet towel.
