I used to shy away from admitting to people that we have an elevator in our home. The reaction people usually have is, first shocked, and then a shaking of the head, as if we were too extravagant. But my whole attitude changed when I read this article on Houzz, Home Elevators-A Rising Trend. I realized we aren’t the only ones who have an elevator in their home, it is actually becoming a very popular amenity. And the main reason people want to incorporate an elevator in their home? Because they want to be able to stay in their home for as long as possible as they come upon those aging years. This was actually one of the reasons we put one in our home as well. Plus we have a 3 story home which is a lot of stairs, and with an elevator it makes it so much easier to move heavy things.
When it came to designing the inside of our elevator, I used the elevator at The Venetian in Las Vegas as my inspiration {this is the only picture I could find of the Venetian elevator, I have no clue who that guy is}
I bumped up the design a little bit though. I added the tufted mohair on the bottom panels, used a custom wood laser cut panel on the ceiling, and a gold leaf stenciled pattern on the inside of the doors.
Target has a Chrome X bench on clearance right now for $41.98. That’s a steal in my book. The upholstery on this X bench can easily be changed to match your style and taste.
I think a pair of these would look beautiful at the end of a bed
The trend credit goes to Jonathan Adler. They are actually wall sculptures which were originally made by C. Jeré in the 60′s along with other very sought after collectable varieties.
Recently, Jonathan Adler partnered with the C. Jeré studio and reissued their most iconic mid-century designs. For $1250 you can get these signed and dated sculptures.
I don’t have anywhere to use them on a wall but I love how they look as a decorative accessory.
On a side note..I’ve been seeing coffee tables styled like this a lot lately. Where the heck are you suppose to put your coffee? Isn’t that why it’s called a coffee table? It looks pretty in a picture but it sure isn’t functional in my opinion.
I was so happy when I came upon a knock off version of the gold urchin locally. I picked up one small gold urchin for $30.
I just set my gold urchin on one of my side tables for now, until I find that perfect spot. {looks like I need to get a Channel book after looking at those two styled tables hehe} I’m already loving the visual texture it has. I might go back and buy the other two sizes, I like how they look clustered together....continue to full post
Do you get a log of catalogs? I know I do. I try to look through each one, and when I do, I pin what I like to my Pinterest Products I love board. I used to save the catalogs and earmark the pages, but really, that is so 2010! Pinterest allows me to organize and keep track of the items I love and put all those catalogs in the recycle bin once I’m done. Clears the clutter, thank you Pinterest. So I thought I would start sharing what I am crushing on in the variety of catalogs I frequently get. But before I do, please know that I am not getting compensated for showcasing these products. I just thought I would pass on some of my favorite places to shop and the items I think are pin-worthy.
Today I will start with Crate and Barrel. We have a store here in San Diego, it has two stories and is full of wonderful displays. One of the big ticket items that I have purchased from them is this media console
I used mine just as a console, but it would work very well for a media console. It has sliding doors on both sides for all your electronic equipment .
When I saw that Home Decorators Collection was having a Pinterest contest, I jumped at the chance to enter. I mean come on, I love everything decor and we all know I like to pin! And it isn’t the kind where you have to get votes, thank goodness. The winner is selected by their stylist team.
I read the rules and thought I had hit a glitch that I couldn’t enter when I read this:
“Professional Interior Decorators (those who make more than 50 percent of their income from interior design) are not eligible to participate or win.” Ha! I am sure my husband would love it if my professional interior design career paid half of the bills! So I was good to go, and off I went a pinning from their site.
This is the bedroom I created. Serene, soft color palette of blues, linens and grays. Using light oak furniture pieces and decor to pull in some texture
I loved this artwork I used. I think it would be a fun DIY project especially with Valentines right around the corner
The rules weren’t specific as to whether you had to create just a bedroom or just a bathroom, so I covered my bases and did both. The same style and palette continued on into the bathroom
I have always wanted to take better pictures with my Nikon DSLR camera. Kate from Centsational Girl posted about one of her affiliates Shootflyshoot. It caught my attention because they show you how to use the manual mode on your DSLR camera via videos. I liked the idea that I could watch the videos on my own time, stop and start them when I needed to. So I purchased their Photography 101 videos and I must say, I love them! I watched the videos on my laptop, with my camera in hand. It was so helpful to actually manipulate my camera while watching the video.
I am not affiliated with Shootflyshoot, or getting paid to do a review. But since I bought their product I thought I would give you my personal review of how I liked their product.
I used my master bathroom tub area to try out the manual mode. Granted, they aren’t perfect, but I am very proud that I adjusted all the settings myself to get the picture.
What do you think? Not too shabby right? I think the one thing I got down was the lighting {fstop} but I still need to practice more so I can remember what to do every time.
This is the waterfall is outside the master bath window. I was very proud of myself that I was able take a picture with moving water using my manual mode settings. Still a lot to learn though. ...continue to full post
Pantone’s 2013 color of the year is emerald green. I’m excited because I love jewel toned colors. And when you look at green from a color psychology aspect for styling your home and your mood, it is considered a calming, refreshing color. Did you know that is why people waiting to appear on TV sit in “green rooms” to relax? Interesting right? Here are more interesting tid bits on color psychology.
So what is your color? Are the colors in your wardrobe the same colors you use in your house?

I was shopping at a small boutique recently and noticed how pretty they displayed their jewelry and belts. They used different style bowls and tiered containers making it look so pretty, I wanted to buy everything. I thought it was such a good idea, I came home and used the same concept for my own jewelry and belts.
The first thing I got was this hanging thing at Homegoods, {don’t know what it is called} I thought it would be a great way to hang my necklaces
And it was. Now they don’t get tangled and I can easily see what I have.
Then I found some pretty bowls in different sizes. One for my watches {the thing I wear the most as you can see by how many I have}
and one for my bracelets
Then just for the fun of it, I added an Anthropologie bowl to my tray of lotions to hold a few nail polishes
For my belts, I picked up two of the these tiered stands at Homegoods. It takes seconds to roll the belts and lay them into the tray.
I think the tiered tray for my belts is my favorite. By having them in view like this, I can quickly choose which belt I want.
Here is one from Sav-on Crafts that looks similar to what I used
